Coronavirus Update Tuesday 17th March

The government advised on Monday 16th March evening that people AVOID pubs, clubs, and restaurants to try and prevent further spread of the virus. Icebreakers volunteers are deciding how best to follow this advice since we are a support group and recognise service users still need our help.

Since we use the Foundation premises for our meetings, if they shut the building then obviously Icebreakers can’t meet at all. If the Foundation remains open for support groups, then we may have options that we are currently discussing. If we are unable to use the building, then we are looking at other possibilities using Social Media.

This is a very fluid situation outside of our control. We will update the Icebreaker website each day with the latest information we have. Remember to refresh your web browser to make sure you get the latest information.

As of 11am Tuesday 17 March we are still planning on running the meeting, but this could change.

Please check regularly for updates and before you set off to the meeting this Wednesday.

The LGBT Foundation has given the following advice to service users:

If you have been to an affected place in the last 14 days

Or

Had contact with somebody with coronavirus

And have any of the following symptoms:

  • a cough
  • a high temperature
  • shortness of breath

Please do not come into the Foundation building, instead please protect yourself and others by going home. Please visit this NHS webpage for advice and to access the 111 online coronavirus service or call NHS 111.

Carl Austin-Behan OBE DL visits Icebreakers

On 12 Feb 2020 Icebreakers were treated to a very interesting talk by Carl Austin-Behan OBE DL the Former Lord Mayor of Manchester and Mr Gay UK 2001. Carl talked about having to leave the RAF because he was outed as gay and being given only 10 minutes to pack his belongings and get out. After leaving the RAF he became a fireman and later entered local politics moving up through the ranks to eventually become Lord Mayor of Manchester. After his time in office came to an end he is now the advisor to the current Lord Mayor on LGBT issues.

His talk was very inspirational and had the Icebreakers service users and volunteers captivated by his determination and public service.

Pizza and Movie Night Valentines 2020

Another Icebreaker Pizza and Movie night in the Foundations 2nd Floor “Movie Theatre” getting ready to start the film Latter Days. For those who haven’t been to a movie night there are comfy sofas to sit on rather than watching the film in our usual room.

Waiting for the film to start

Icebreakers at Pride 2019

This year Icebreakers couldn’t get a place in the parade but that didn’t stop us giving support watching from the sidelines outside the Midland Hotel wearing our Icebreakers Tee-Shirts. Thanks to all those who turned up to support us, especially those who lasted the whole 3 hours.

Pride 2018
